I am a self-taught artist who has been creating 'something' nearly all my life. My earliest artistic memories are of learning to crochet and knit and sew at the knee of my mother. I have worked with a variety of media ,including stained glass, fabric, and 'nature'. My interest in altered books goes back to 2001. It was in that year that several life-defining moments occurred, both for me personally, and for the world. I found that through collage and the book arts, I was able to express artistically what I could not easily put into words. My 'artist eye' seeks out the lessons and essence of life; I find myself creating 'metaphorical' book art ,with representation of deep feelings, experiences, and humor. My vision in creating altered books and journals is stimulated by simple words, phrases, ideas, even puns. In my artwork, you will see a variety of techniques - from rubber stamping , use of acrylics and inks and adhesives, to collage and the employment of a variety of ephemera and 'found' objects. As a member of the 'sandwich generation'-(daughter, wife, mother, grandmother), I choose to define myself as 'artist'. Having been a life-long 'garden artist', and retired from a 20-year career in nursing, I continue to relish the artistic opportunities which abound in everyday life. I teach altered book classes, a fabric bead-making class, and more. I exhibit my books in local art galleries. Contact Me!
